Als “Our Father” zingen we in principe altijd de “traditional ecumenical” versie:
Our Father who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
Als we chanten of zingen, gebruiken we bovenstaande versie, de Traditional Ecumenical Version. Dus ook als in de partituur de oude versie uit the Book of Common Prayer staat (which art; in earth; them that trespass). We wijken hier alleen van af, als de componist de woorden helemaal anders heeft uitgeschreven/ gecomponeerd. Maar dat spreken we dan altijd expliciet af.
De oude versie uit “The Book of Common Prayer”, gebruiken we dus niet meer. Deze luidde:
